Happy Holidays from MySettlementClaims.com. We have some further updates on the Black Farmers Discrimination Settlement. The Department of the Treasury has been busy writing checks, but not to the class members.
First, on December 20, 2012, Judge Friedman issued an order approving payment of the Ombudsman’s invoice for June 2012 in the amount of $33,090.10. This is separate from the $375,000 the Ombudsman requested for its future fees through February 2013 though it all comes from the same pot of money.
Second, on December 21, 2012, Judge Friedman issued an order approving payment of $2,000,000.00 to the Settlement Administrator (Epiq Systems, Inc.) and the Neutrals (JAMS) for implementation of the settlement. This order is subject to review of the Settlement Administrator’s invoices by Class Counsel.
The motion requesting this payment described the work performed by the Settlement Administrator as “staffing a toll-free telephone number to provide information to Class Members, reviewing claim forms that have been received and transmitting completed claim forms to the Court-approved Neutrals, processing determinations received from the Neutrals, and discharging the array of other administrative tasks described in the Settlement Agreement.”
Let’s hope that in early 2013 the Department of the Treasury will be busy writing checks to the actual class members. Happy new year!
