If you filed your taxes online with TurboTax in the last five years, you may be entitled to a class action settlement award…
In Smith et al. v. Intuit, Inc., plaintiffs alleged that Intuit, Inc. engaged in violations of California and federal consumer protection laws in connection with the Refund Processing Service offered through the online version of TurboTax. Specifically, plaintiffs allege that Intuit failed to properly disclose the fee for the Refund Processing Service as a finance charge, and failed to properly disclose the Annual Percentage Rate (“APR”) of what Plaintiffs alleged was a loan.
Class members who utilized TurboTax’s Refund Processing Service during the last five years may be eligible for a portion of the $6,550,000.00 settlement fund. The Refund Processing Service, sometimes referred to as a Refund Processing Option or Refund Transfer, refers to the service, for which you typically pay a fee of $29.95, that allows you to pay your tax preparation or filing fees out of your tax return, instead of paying for them immediately.
An eligible Class Member’s share shall be determined by the number of times the Class Member purchased the Refund Processing Service during the Class Period divided by the total number of times that all Class Members who submit timely claim forms purchased the Refund Processing Service during the Class Period.
