The Ombudsman has provided a vague update regarding payments to class members…
The Ombudsman in the In Re Black Farmers Discrimination case has issued a statement as of March 26, 2013. The Ombudsman states that regarding “Timeline for Decisions and Payment” the evaluation of claims is still ongoing. Further, “There is no exact timeline for completing this review, the notification of claimants, or payment to successful claimants.”
Not a very informative update, but at least they provided an update.
The Ombudsman also provided some statistics regarding the claims:
Claim Forms have been made available to about 89,057 claimants.
Claims Forms have been timely submitted to the Claims Administrator by about 38,144 claimants.
Claim Forms submitted by about 33,871 class members are complete. These claims will be decided by the Track A and Track B Neutrals.
This implies that 4,273 of the claims submitted on time were not complete. It’s not clear from the Ombudsman if those claims will be or already have been rejected.
Stay tuned for further updates.
